As you may have seen on our Facebook page, my twin and I celebrated our 5th birthday yesterday! Yay! I had lots of nice chicken treats and some yummy tuna cat food for tea… though I get those most days so perhaps my mummy should have made a bit more of an effort on reflection
As seems to be customary on these occasions, I’ve been looking through the archives to find some baby photos that my mummy said I had to share. I’m not sure I like it, but you know me – I’m a good boy and always does as I’m told *crosses paws behind back*
So life started off at Sue the breeder’s house and after a few weeks our new owners – i.e. mummy and daddy – started to visit us quite regularly. We made sure we pulled off the cute look
Then after 15 weeks we went to our new home and soon settled in
Lula made herself at home on the kitchen table lol
And she also liked to have a good look around the bathtub
Though I preferred it when there was water in it
I told mummy off for taking pics of me with green bits in the way
So she made me move and took another
Lula started off her successful show career before I did
Whilst I stayed at home and helped mummy with her iPad (which were quite new out at the time)
Friday, Harry and Robbie came to tolerate us quite quickly (as long as we didn’t try and eat their dinner )
And after a nice dinner, what better thing is there to do than have a nice catnap? (some things never change )
So there’s our first few weeks/months in a nutshell! Doesn’t time fly?
I’m back after a little break – my mummy and daddy went off to some place called ‘Portugal’ so I wasn’t able to write my blog last week as the house sitter lady doesn’t know how to help me
I’m sure you didn’t miss us too much though we’ve not really done a lot to report on since mummy and daddy returned, we’ve just been chillin’ out now the weather’s getting warmer and spending lots of time outdoors in our cat garden
I love to have a sleep in Lula’s new favourite place, the cat house But I keep a close ear out for her….
… and when I know she’s coming, I make a quick exit ….
… and she’s none the wiser!
Meanwhile, Spike was chillin’ out on the old cat house that daddy was doing some maintenance on, or trying to at least
And Friday was having a nice sleep in mummy’s office
Annie also wanted to have a snooze in there, her favourite place at the moment seems to be Geoff the catnip Giraffe cushion
So Spike took advantage and decided to check out Annie’s favourite mouse in a ball toy
But soon decided that he preferred the grass instead
Meanwhile, Lula had wandered off back indoors, so I took full advantage of that and settled down for a nice snooze of my own
Oooh! We’re having some funny weather in our World at the moment: one minute the sun’s out and the next it’s pouring with rain! My mummy told me it’s called ‘April showers'; I suppose I should remember them from last year but that was far too long ago
I do remember, however, when the Peskies first came to live with us – can you believe they’re nearly two years old now?
That little Annie cat has not really left me alone since the day she came, she certainly loves her big brother! (Spike is her ‘little’ brother as he’s 10 hours younger than her )
So there I was the other day, making the most of that sunshine I told you about earlier, sitting minding my own business, when all of a sudden there she was, by my side!
I pretended at first not to see her, but then she started to ask me lots of questions
One thing she wanted to know about was the bamboo! So I showed her how to catch it!
Then you need to sniff it
Then you examine it a bit further to see if you can eat it or not
So that’s what you do with bamboo, I told her
I could tell that she was losing interest somewhat and seemed to be watching the birdies in the tree behind us!
So I decided to take a wash instead of talking to her
But then she pulled a funny face at me, thinking I’d not seen
So I decided to pretend that it was far more interesting to look at the wall of the house
And that was the end of our little meeting. Not long afterwards, the clouds came over and the rain poured down, so I went indoors for a nice catnap
It’s a little bit odd, I know, me writing my blog on a Monday, and I’ll be out with my days all week! It’s all because the cat show this week was on Sunday rather than Saturday My mummy was much too tired to help me write my blog yesterday to tell you all about the show, so that’s why we’re writing it now
So we were up bright and early yesterday. Well, it was early at least, perhaps not so bright, seeing as it was in the middle of the night … Perhaps not quite the middle of the night but it was very early for me to have my sleep disturbed
Mummy had decided to give Annie a little break from shows as she’s been to a few this year, so it was up to us boys – me and Spike – to go and show off our spots
So, Annie and the rest of them carried on snoozing whilst Spike and I got in the large carrier and were whisked away to the show.
We both had double pens and I settled in very quickly into my donut bed as I could tell I’d be able to have lots of nice catnaps in it
Spike, on the other paw, liked to have a good look round his pen and make sure it was up to his standards!
So mummy had to fuss around him quite a lot – he’s very loud and insistent when he wants to be!
After a while, as it always does, the rest of the world caught up with us and others started to arrive and the hall soon filled up with cats of all breeds and colours.
And then the morning judging started where we’d be assessed for our Title and Best of Breed classes. This was a joint show so, although we’re both at the same level, we weren’t competing against each other as Spike was in one show and I was in a different one.
We were both going for our Imperial certificate, as we both still need 4 to achieve the title (we both have one each – we like to be consistent! )
The title class results took a little while to come out, but in the meantime the Best of Breed results were published! And what great news! I won Best of Breed in my show, though to be fair there was only one other boy up against me.
Spike was up against 3 other cats for his BoB, including my Aunt Fanny (Sue’s cat. He’s related to me on my mother’s side, and not related to Spike). Sue knew that the judge liked Fanny very much and Fanny is much more titled than either of us two so it would be a tough class….
But Spike won it! Yay! What a clever chap he is
Then we waited for our Imperial class results: Spike was up against 4 other cats in his, and I was up against 7 other cats in mine!
Again, a tough couple of classes, which sadly neither of us won. Oh well. If it was any consolation, the boy who won Spike’s class also eventually won the Best in Show Foreign category, so it was no shame to be beaten by him.
Then we waited for the side classes…. mine weren’t all that great, to be honest I was unplaced out of 5 in one, and 2nd out of 2 in the other. But at least I had lots of nice catnaps
Spike did a little better! He won one of his side classes (though he was the only one in it ) and came 2nd out of 5 in the other, with the same boy beating him to 1st place.
Then, it was time to pack up so daddy put us both in the same pen whilst he tidied things up and mummy got on with packing up the stall.
The first thing Spike did was steal my nice bed!
I wasn’t impressed by this
So I made him get up and look at my nice pink rosette (though he seemed much more interested in something else )
And finally, we got home and had some nice dinner and some of my favourite chicken treats before getting into bed for a well-deserved snooze. In fact, I have no idea why my mummy was so tired after all; I had a very relaxing day!
The next show is in a few weeks, which will be attended by Spike and Annie
Well, we have had no snow to report in our World which is most disappointing. Or at least Lula thinks it is anyway. Did you know that The Peskies (Annie and Spike) have never even seen proper snow? They saw a light covering last year, but as soon as it was here, it was gone again! I didn’t even get enough time to wake up from my nice catnap before it had disappeared
This has been an unusual weekend for us – no shows, nothing very exciting happening either. My daddy was still getting over the little bug he had in the week, so the hoomins hardly went out at all!
The Spike Pesky was very happy as this meant he spent lots of time with mummy in her office whilst she worked on things for the store and packing up the orders. Spike is very much a mummy’s boy because she gives him lots of cuddles and treats. I allowed my mummy to give me some cuddles and even a kiss or two today, seeing as it’s Mother’s Day here in the UK, but usually I draw the line at her giving me some nice treats and that’s it Unless I’m in a cuddly mood of course, which happens more than I care to admit
Meanwhile, the rest of us pottered around really! Here’s some snapshots of our weekend
When Spike wasn’t smooching around in mummy’s office, he enjoyed a bit of birdie watching in the garden
Daddy put together the cat tree that Annie won for being Best in Show recently – it’s a purrfect fit!
Meanwhile, Friday was birdie watching from the Tigga Towers in the conservatory – a much more comfortable way of doing so!
Whilst, I had to share the top bunk with Harry (again…!) It’s not like there isn’t enough space, he always has to come and sit on me when I’m up there! *sigh*
Robbie had the right idea and went up to the heated floor in the bathroom for his nap in the squidgy purple bed
Whilst Lula concentrated more on a bit of purrsonal hygiene in the old cat tree by the door
So another Monday is nearly upon us, and I wonder what this week will bring? I’m thinking some nice tuna and some of my favourite chicken treats would be a good start
I hope you’ve all had a lovely and relaxing weekend. We’ve been a bit bored as the weather has not been kind… it’s been quite windy and wild! No snow, though, so Lula (and mummy) are not impressed by that!
We did have bit of drama in the house, though, as something broke yesterday! I’m not exactly sure what it was, it was some kind of tank that’s hidden away in one of the cupboards we can’t get into… but what it meant was that a new one had to be bought! And in turn that meant a new box! And this was a BIG box! So my mummy cut a couple of holes out here and there… kitty heaven for hours!
Other than that, though, we’ve been quite quiet. We’ve not broken anything (other than the ornament that Annie broke the other day, but that was mummy’s fault for putting it in a silly place) and we’ve not done any other naughties (that we’ll admit to in public at least. My mummy and daddy read this, don’t you know?).
But it did get me thinking that us Bengals sometimes give the wrong impression to you hoomins. You think of us as naughty and loud and boisterous – yes? Well sometimes of course we are all of those things, but we also like to have our down time too and think of one of my mummy’s favourite poems:
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare….
So I’ve been searching through the archives and found some evidence of us doing just that!
Lula’s not quite got the hang of it yet, not much staring going on here…
Annie struggles to completely sit still
Whilst Spike likes to set a good example
But of course I am the master of this!
Whilst Lula needs a bit of coaching in this area I feel….
Spike and Annie like to stare together
Whilst I continue to show ‘em how it’s done
It looks like Annie has finally got the hang of it!
So I’d better show them just once more how it’s done
So there we have it! Proof that us Bengals can have our quiet moments and reflect upon birdies, and treats, and toys, and dinner time, and breakfast time, and what mischief we can get up to later on
