Show News!

Hello my friends, Spot here!

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know that I’ve recently been turning “Spotty’s Spotlight” on each member of our cat family in turn…. so far I’ve written about Spike, Harry, Lula and Robbie. Who’s next? You’ll need to be patient, my friends, because we’re not going to be letting you know until next week! That’s because Spike and Annie went to the cat show yesterday, so I’m going to be telling you all about it!

Yesterday it was the Shropshire Cat Club Show which, although it doesn’t actually take place in Shropshire as it’s in Staffordshire, it’s still one of the nearer ones to us, so although it was an early start, it wasn’t as bad as some πŸ™‚ We all had an early breakfast and then mummy put the peskies in their carrier ready to get in the car πŸ™‚

Spike and Annie share a large carrier as they made too much noise the first time they went to a show and they were in two individual ones, so my mummy had to buy yet another one that will be big enough for them both to be in (bearing in mind they have a lot of growing to do) (or at least Spike does) – they have snuggly, soft blankets in there, so they cuddle up together and you hardly hear a peep out of them! But to be fair, all 4 of us Bengals are great travellers, unlike Robbie who never shuts up from the moment he sets paw in his carrier to the minute he leaves 😯

So, after about an hour or so on the road, they arrived at the sports centre where the show was taking place. They were one of the first there as mummy has to be early to set up her stall, so there was no queue to see the vet and they passed vetting in with flying colours! So then, daddy took them off to clean and set up their pens and settle them in, whilst mummy got her stall sorted out, which is taking longer and longer with the more stock she gets! πŸ™‚

As you can see, Spike is such a laid back boy, he can chill out wherever he is! πŸ™‚

Once all the other cats arrived and were settled, the morning judging can commence – all the owners must leave the hall at this time for GCCF shows as this is when the important title classes are judged and they are done on an anonymous basis, the judges are not meant to know who the cats belong to Β πŸ™‚

Our breeder, Sue, was Duty Vet at the show, and as it was a very large show (517 cats were entered), she was kept very busy indeed! She gets called to any pens where the judges feel there are any issues: if a cat becomes ill or stressed during the show, for example, or if they need advice on whether a cat has a squint or a non-perfect bite! There are lots of different things she gets called for, thankfully most are quite routine.

This was quite a landmark show for the peskies as it was the first show where they were no longer classed as kittens due to them being older than 9 months – they are around 9Β½ months old now πŸ™‚ Β This in turn means that they compete for certificates that go towards earning titles, so Spike needs 3 Premier certificates to earn the title of Premier cat and Annie, being as she is in the Pedigree Pet section, needs 3 Master Cat certificates to earn the title of Master Cat.

After a while, the results from the morning judging were slowly announced and we were so pleased that Annie had been awarded her first MC certificate! She didn’t get Best in Colour though, she was beaten by a much older boy who has already earned lots of titles – he is an Olympian Silver Imperial Grand Master Cat! But he’s also a gorgeous Bengal, so Annie said she didn’t mind being beaten by him πŸ™‚

Annie is giving her pen some love, the card you can see is the reverse of her Master Cat certificate – in case you can’t see the judge has written: “Such a beautiful girl” πŸ™‚

Unfortunately, Spike wasn’t so successful – another boy beat him to the Premier certificate but that’s ok πŸ™‚ You don’t go to shows expecting to win every time as that would be boring! πŸ™‚

The next show is only two weeks away! And it’s a double show – so Spike has two chances to earn Premier certificates, and Lula has two chances to try and get an Olympian! Though this is exceptionally tough and she has not managed to be so lucky yet πŸ™‚ Annie is going to have a rest and stay at home to cuddle me!

I think that brings you all up to date!

Take care my friends!
Love from Spot

  1. Congrats to Annie and her staff, your mummy & daddy! I saw a number of posts yesterday by people who had stopped in and met the peskies. Lucky people! Thanks for sharing Spot β™₯

    1. My pleasure, June! Yes, they met lots of lovely friends yesterday, mummy said it was so lovely to see them all! πŸ™‚ xxx

  2. Spot, was Annie more comfortable this time around ? I recall she was a bit stressed at her previous show. I see she’s being rested for the next show when Lula and Spike will appear.
Glad to know Mum did good trading with all her kitty goodies, makes all the efforts worthwhile.
Great blog, as usual, my friend.

    1. Hi Mavis! Thanks for asking πŸ˜‰ Yes, Annie was fine at the show – she hid under her blanket a little but that’s just because she likes to play hide and seek πŸ™‚ She didn’t like the tannoy though they didn’t use it excessively. It can be quite expensive to show cats, especially double shows, so with three cats to show we have to make the decision for one or two of them to stay at home for most shows. We also don’t have enough room in the car for 2 carriers once all mummy’s stall equipment and stock are in there so 2 cats would usually be the maximum we would take.

  3. As usual, VERY lovely posts. I am just getting caught up on your last 4! LOVE the spotlight ones featuring one of the BCW kitties! All of you are so beautiful! Spot, I do have one comment about Lulu’s spotlight — I was rather surprised that you didn’t have any snow pictures with her — I thought Lulu liked the snow!! MOL!! In any event, ALL wonderful posts. . . GRATZ on another fantastic cat show — the best is yet to come, I’m sure!! You’re all winners in my heart!!! Love and prayers for all at BCW — including Mommy & Daddy for “raising” such beautiful children!! β™₯β™₯β™₯

    1. Hello, Diane and welcome back! πŸ™‚ Thanks for your lovely comments, you are of course correct about Lula loving the snow πŸ™‚ We have so many lovely photos, it’s hard to decide what to publish and what to leave out πŸ™‚ xx

  4. I really missed hearing all the news as it came in! Of course Annie is a beautiful girl, she also has loads of personality xx πŸ™‚
